wipE’out: Fusion of Game, Sound and Graphic Design

Wipeout (stylised as wipE’out“) is a futuristic racing video game developed and published by Psygnosis. It is the first game in the Wipeout series. It was originally released in 1995 for PlayStation and PCs running MS-DOS, and in 1996 for Sega Saturn, being a launch title for the PlayStation in Europe.

The game was a novelty of fun at the time (and for many to date), combined with fresh graphic design (from the British design agency „The Designers Republic“, also called „TDR“), accompanied by electronic music. This media fusion was then a novelty, the music from the clubs, the designs of the album covers found themselves in the game again. There was even a soundtrack CD with the tracks.

We too were inspired by the Pictogram-Freehand-Graphics by TDR graphic artist Ian Anderson and we continued to interpret the design process in our flyer designs: Logopilots „space is still the place “ designs
